Colored Diamond Colors or Hues
vary from the extrordinally rare pure red diamond to the marketing
hype that came up with "cognac" and "champagne".
Rarity of hue, however, does not necessarily equal market desirability.
Some
colors
of diamonds are more in demand.
Generally, desirability might fall into the following order:
Red - true red is rarest & most desirable
Intense purple - resembles the color of amethyst
Intense green - with the emphasis being on "intense
Purple red - where undertones come into play
Purplish-red - this takes a better eye than mine
Bluish-green - not to be confused with irradiated diamonds
Greenish-blue - again, not irradiated
Pink - saturation plays a major role.
Blue - pure hues ex. Blue Heart and Hope
Diamond
Orange - pure hue without undertones - think orange juice
Yellow - this would be highly saturated in the range of vivid
Cognac - generally larger stones & current fashion
Olive - Similar to Peridot
Gray - a case of rarity not equaling market desirability
Black - easy to confuse between natural and treated
Brown - pretty much the least favored colored diamond
