Diamond Version of Wow! Did You See That!

How many times has that exclamation turned your head? A 930 Turbo, a Lear Jet, Jessica Alba in leather jeans. They all have that one thing in common. Perfect proportions. When you see near-perfect proportions you have to admire them.

But the true benefit of proportions is often in the effect of those proportions.

"Effect" of Diamond Proportions

You can't see the proportions of a 930 Turbo while you're driving it. You will be able to feel the G-force as it corners hard, and the way it comes out of a corner like a raging tiger.

A pilot flying a Lear jet will appreciate how he gets a sensation of flying yet the craft is solid as a rock. The result is in the proportions.

Watching Jessica Alba dance .. 'nuff said.

Likewise, the important proportions of a diamond are not its profiles. The important proportions of a diamond are

  • Angles - such as the pavilion angle, angle of crown
  • Ratios - such as the % of the table compared to the diameter. The ratio of the crown height and pavilion to the overall height

Diamonds and Light

Light is the catalyst that makes diamonds magical. The physics of light is known and predictable. All that remains is for a cutter to fashion a quality crystal to those perfect proportions. That makes all light entering the diamond .. from above or below .. return to / reach the eye of the observer.

It's actually pretty simple

  • A well proportioned and polished diamond will use light to maximum advantage
  • A poorly proportioned and/or poorly polished diamond won't

If your lady's diamond gets "wow!" comments from strangers, you have scored big time .. and you will be rewarded!
